NOTE: GTO and DAP contracts were available only to Fall 2004 UC applicants. New GTO and DAP contracts are not being offered.
The University is proud of its historic commitment to finding a space for all eligible California residents on one of its campuses. However, in January 2004 proposed state funding cuts prevented us from offering enough freshman spaces to meet that pledge. In response to these proposed enrollment reductions, UC created the Guaranteed Transfer Option (GTO), which provided eligible freshman applicants who were not admitted with a different offer – that is, deferred admission to a specific UC campus upon successful completion of a defined set of academic requirements at a California community college.
Under GTO, qualified California resident applicants for fall 2004 who were not initially offered freshman admission at any UC campus received an offer from one or more campuses to delay their UC enrollment until they reached junior standing and start their degree at a California community college. Students who accepted that offer are not only guaranteed admission to a specific UC campus upon successful completion of their lower division course requirements, but they receive an academic plan from that campus to ensure their success.
While the final state budget restored UC's enrollment funding and UC was able to offer freshman admission to UC-eligible California resident freshman applicants who originally were offered the Guaranteed Transfer Option, a number of students opted to remain in the program and prepare for transfer to a UC campus as juniors.
Dual Admission Program (DAP)
In 2004, the Dual Admissions Program (DAP) provided a new path to UC admission for promising California high school students. Through DAP, high school students who ranked near the top of their class but had not met all of the requirements to attend UC directly from high school were invited to apply to UC in their senior year and, once admitted, were guaranteed a place at a specific UC campusas a transfer student, provided they successfully complete their lower division coursework at a California community college.
Although state funding for the Dual Admission Program has been eliminated, UC has maintained its commitment to DAP students through GTO. Participating DAP students continue to be apprised of program information via the MyGTO secure website.
