Transfer Selection Criteria — UC Santa Cruz

All Colleges Except Engineering

UC-eligible students are selected primarily on the basis of academic performance and preparation, as assessed by a review of: GPA in all UC-transferable courses, successful completion of lower-division prerequisite courses in the intended major, completion of a specified pattern of courses that meet general education requirements, participation in academically selective honors programs and performance in honors courses.

Other considerations include outstanding performance in one or more academic subject areas; special projects or programs; talents, achievements, experiences or interests that will contribute to the vitality and educational environment of the campus; and special circumstances or personal challenges, especially as they relate to a student's social or educational environment.

Jack Baskin School of Engineering

The Baskin School of Engineering (SoE) strongly encourages applications from transfer students. Acceptance into any SoE major is based on the student's academic college record. Applicants are encouraged to take and excel in as many courses that are equivalent to the department's foundation courses as possible. Transfer students should not follow the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) because it will not provide transfer students with enough mathematics and engineering courses to allow them to complete School of Engineering programs at UCSC in two years. Details on foundation courses can be found at www.soe.ucsc.edu/admissions.
