and breadth of academic preparation, including grades and test
scores, will be reviewed.

• Freshman Applicants: Other factors may be considered.

Notification of Awards
• Freshman Applicants: This
is a merit-based scholarship. Essays and applications will be
reviewed and, for those selected, interviews will be held in February
through early March. Notification of awards in mid- to late March.
• Re-entry Applicants: In May.
• Transfer Applicants: Scholarship
not available.
Academic Criteria
• Freshman Applicants: Strength and breadth of academic preparation, including grades and test scores, will be reviewed. Requires a minimum GPA of 3.65.
• Re-entry Applicants: Requires
a minimum 3.20 GPA in recent college work.
Other Criteria
• All Applicants: Must be
a U.S. citizen or permanent resident or have official refugee
status.
• Freshman Applicants: Must
be a resident of California. Must plan to enter UCR in the fall
as a freshman directly from high school. Must be available for
interview with a regional committee.
• Re-entry Applicants: Must
be over the age of 25 and pursuing a bachelor's degree after interruption
in education of at least two years. Must have demonstrated financial
need as determined by the UCR Financial Aid Office.
Supporting Documentation
• Freshman Applicants: A one-page essay is required.
Deadline is January 30, 2009. Do not send the essay with your
application for admission. Do not send letters of recommendation. Essay instructions

• Re-entry Applicants: A brief essay and a supplemental
application are required. Deadline is April 3, 2009. Do not send
