eScholarship Repository exceeds 5 million downloads
UC's eScholarship Repository provides a free and accessible way to share the wealth of the university's academic research.
Part of the California Digital Library, the repository has a cache of more than 20,000 scholarly journal articles and peer-reviewed research available to the public. The content, coming from UC campuses and research labs, ranges across disciplines to include humanities, social science, and math and science research and includes both journal articles and materials from seminar series.
Since its launch in 2002, the repository has had more than 5.5 million full-text downloads, often exceeding 55,000 a week.
Not only does the repository increase access to valuable research findings, but it also gives faculty and researchers an alternative to publishing in high-priced, for-profit journals.
The eScholarship Repository is part of a broader UC effort to harness technology for the low-cost dissemination of educational and research materials.
The repository can be accessed at http://repositories.cdlib.org/escholarship .
