A record number of high school seniors set their sights on gaining admission to a UC campus in fall 2008. UC offered admission to 60,008 of them. Despite looming budget cuts, the university is fulfilling a commitment to offer a place to every eligible California applicant. Nine out of 10 admitted students are California residents.

New UC Irvine program reaches out to American Indians
Nikishna Polequaptewa, a UC Irvine alumnus and member of the Hopi Tribe, wanted to open the doors to a university education for more American Indians. So he pitched an idea to campus administrators for an American Indian Resource Program to work with Indian teenagers, parents and tribal leaders. The program could go a long way to boosting UC enrollment of this underserved student population.
