UC San Francisco chancellor to step down
J. Michael Bishop, a Nobel Prize-winning cancer researcher who has served 10 years as UC San Francisco chancellor, will resign from his post effective June 30.
Bishop, 72, will continue to serve as a professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and as director of the G. W. Hooper Foundation, a UCSF biomedical research unit. He joined the UCSF faculty in 1968 and was appointed chancellor in 1998.
