In spite of the considerable sacrifices that have already been made at the University of California, the viability of our core mission is at stake. If budget cuts continue at their current rate – or if they deepen – there is a real chance that we will be unable to preserve the excellence Californians expect.

2009 commencement speakers inspire graduates

More than 55,000 students earned UC degrees in 2009. The hottest commencement ceremony ticket was at UC Merced where first lady Michelle Obama delivered the keynote speech urging graduates to remember their accomplishments when hard times come knocking.
