The University of California has long been a magnet for the brightest, most innovative minds. Now these dire budget setbacks threaten to drive those brilliant students and faculty away from the university and the state. Such a "brain drain" would have serious consequences not just for UC but also for the quality of California's economic and cultural life.
The Commission on the Future of UC will examine new strategies for maintaining the university's quality, accessibility and affordability in an era of declining state support. Experts from within and outside UC will explore new ways of delivering education and research services, maximizing revenue sources and planning appropriate levels of growth.
