When the space shuttle Discovery launches this month, it will carry two UC graduates on board. While I'm proud of our connection to these two astronauts, I'm deeply concerned over the ability of California to continue to inspire and educate our future generations of promising students who dream of healing the sick, founding new enterprises or flying into space.
