Budget deal reached

In the MediaGov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and legislative leaders have announced they have crafted a budget plan with $15.5 billion in cuts, according to the Sacramento Bee. That includes nearly $3 billion in cuts to UC and CSU and $6 billion in K-14 schools. A full vote of the Legislature is expected Thursday. The Chronicle of Higher Education calls the budget deal bad news for California’s public colleges and universities. One bright note: Cal Grants, a financial aid program for the state’s low-income students, will be spared, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
