Ethics Suite of Courses

Overview

The University of California recently developed and rolled out a suite of ethics courses. The Ethics Suite consists of three modules, one for a general audience and two for specifically-targeted audiences.

Compliance Briefing: UC Ethical Values & Conduct

This briefing will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. If required to take this module, you will have received an automatic link from the Learning Management System for course completion. The purpose of the briefing is to reinforce the University of California Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct (pdf) and provide information about reporting instances of non-compliance. This briefing will be delivered to approximately 192,000 University non-research employees (faculty, staff, postdocs, students) in FY09-10.

Compliance Briefing: UC Ethical Values & Conduct, and Conflict of Interest for Researchers

This briefing will take approximately 40 – 60 minutes to complete. If required to take this module, you will have received an automatic link from the Learning Management System for course completion. The purpose of the briefing is to reinforce the University of California Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct (pdf) and provide information about reporting instances of non-compliance. In addition, this briefing will satisfy funding agency requirements to train researchers on conflict of interest in the research setting. This briefing will be delivered to approximately 19,000 University research employees (faculty, staff, postdocs) in FY09-10.

Conflict of Interest For Designated Officials

Under California Fair Political Practices Commission rules, the University is required to provide training on FPPC rules and conflict of interest concepts to those officials designated as annual filers. This briefing was delivered to approximately 1,500 Designated Officials in FY09-10.

While the two Conflict of Interest courses are distinct and separate, a number of senior administrators may be subject to both courses if they maintain active research programs.
