Making Connections, Forging Collaborations
In lieu of a traditional inaugural ceremony, UC President Robert
C. Dynes held a series of small regional and campus-based events
throughout California in 2003-04. These regional visits introduced
the new president to Californians, gave him a chance to listen to
their concerns and expectations for the University, and also share
with them the myriad ways UC contributes to California’s economic
vitality and quality of life. The tour included a variety of
opportunities for students, faculty, staff, community members, alumni,
elected officials, business leaders and the public to connect with
the new president.
Since his appointment in October 2003, President Dynes made visiting every part of the state – from Redding to San Diego, from the Pacific coast to the Sierra foothills – a top priority. He exchanged thoughts about the future of our university and our state, exploring the many opportunities for UC to contribute to California’s economic growth and quality of life.
President Dynes also took the UC message beyond the state’s borders, expanding collaborations with other universities, governments and businesses, to keep California competitive in the global marketplace and infusing the academic spirit of the University of California.
