The UCSF Fresno program provides high-quality care to Central Valley residents, while training the next generation of physicians. It has graduated more than 2,000 doctors, half of whom stay in the area to practice. The Doctor's Academy begins this process in high school and seeks to increase the number of students who go onto become competitive applicants to medical school.

Minnie Santillan (Assemblymember Sarah Reyes' office), former State Senator Jim Costa, Margaret Arechiga (U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer's office), President Dynes, UCSF Fresno Associate Dean Joan Voris, UC Merced Chancellor Carol Tomlinson-Keasey and County Supervisor (and UC alum) Juan Arambula, visiting the under-construction UCSF Fresno Medical Education and Research Center. Slated to open later in 2004, the building will serve as the hub of UCSF Fresno's medical education program and top researchers and physicians to Fresno.
