Departmental Requirements — UC San Diego

Engineering, Human Development, Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts, Literature/Writing, Mathematics — Computer Science, and Visual Arts — Media

Freshman applicants interesting in applying to Computer Science and Computer Engineering (within the Computer Science and Engineering Department); Computer Engineering (within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department); Bioengineering; and Bioengineering: Biotechnology must also select an alternate major on the UC application. Students admitted to UCSD who are not admitted directly into one of these majors will be admitted into their alternate major, provided space is available.

The following majors admit freshman students to pre-major status only: Bioengineering: Premedical, Engineering Physics, Human Development, Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts (Music and Visual Arts), Literature/Writing, Mathematics — Computer Science, and Visual Arts — Media with Computing Emphasis. Students must satisfy all prerequisites before admission into the major. For more information, consult the UCSD General Catalog.
