When a student has successfully completed advanced work (earning a grade of C or better) in an area of sequential knowledge, the student is presumed to have completed the lower-level coursework (e.g., Spanish 2, successfully completed, validates Spanish 1). Validation can occur with just a semester of a higher-level course.
For freshman applicants, validation applies to courses in mathematics and languages other than English. For more information about validation of subject requirements by other means, see Options for Satisfying UC's "A-G" Subject Requirements for Freshman Applicants.
For transfer applicants, UC faculty recently revised the policy for validating language other than English (LOTE) courses so that community college counselors may certify proficiency in LOTE for students seeking IGETC certification. The new policy also allows UC campuses to use validation when they evaluate completion of their foreign language requirements for graduation.

Does Algebra II/Trigonometry validate Geometry?
If a student completes the entire year of Algebra II/Trigonometry, it validates Geometry and all lower-level math. If a student completes only the first semester of the course, only Algebra I will be validated.
