2008-09 UCOP Appropriations Request
The Board of Regents has been presented with a 2008-09 appropriations request for the UC Office of the President that proposes substantial reductions in spending and workforce. The proposal is part of the broader restructuring effort aimed at creating a UCOP that is smaller and more focused in mission.
The proposed budget would reduce UCOP spending by 20 percent and UCOP workforce by 23 percent in the 2008-09 fiscal year. Roughly half of the reductions would be achieved by cutting programs and realigning functions within UCOP. The other half would be achieved by moving certain academic and public service programs out of the UCOP organizational structure entirely and onto campuses or other locations where their functions would be more appropriately housed.
The Regents are expected to vote in May on final approval of the UCOP appropriations request. Details are provided in the documents linked below.
