  IT Guidance Committee

Ad Hoc Research Cyberinfrastructure Advisory Groups

Description | Background | Meetings

Description:

The ITGC convenes ad hoc meetings of interested faculty and staff to discuss issues of UC's cyberinfrastructure related to:

  • high-performance computing
  • advanced networking
  • data stewardship
  • standards that facilitate collaboration

Background:

The UC Research Cyberinfrastructure Meeting held last October at UCSD Calit2 convened faculty researchers in a variety of disciplines to discuss the critical role of “cyberinfrastructure” (high performance computing, networking, storage, managed information using shared standards and protocols) in their research, and to explore future strategies to develop the research cyberinfrastructure required for UC research competitiveness in the future. As a result of the October meeting, a UC-wide Research Computing Group was formed with representation from all UC locations, to promote information exchange and substantive collaboration among UC campuses and national laboratories.

The IT Guidance Committee planning process now offers a venue for University leadership to continue this discussion and  to recommend specific strategies to support research through development of enabling cyberinfrastructure.
