Invitation from Dan Greenstein
May 31, 2006
Dear Colleagues,
A few weeks ago I solicited nominations from the Chief Information Officers, Vice Chancellors for Student Affairs, and University Librarians on the UC campuses for people who have expertise in, passion for, and vision about student services (as broadly defined) and might be willing to share their expertise. As a nominee, you are invited to participate in a systemwide discussion to explore how information technology is being and could be used to inform, engage, and support prospective and current students (complete list of invitees is attached).
This discussion will take place on June 23, 2006 in Oakland from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Location and agenda will be forthcoming. Information will also be made available online at: www.universityofcalifornia.edu/itgc/focusareas/student/)
The discussion will inform a systemwide information technology strategic planning effort convened by Provost Rory Hume ( http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/itgc/ ) to explore areas where UC-wide coordination and/or investment in information technologies and IT-based services would help campuses and the system as a whole enhance or improve service quality, achieve efficiencies, and/or undertake important innovations.
The June 23rd discussion will provide an opportunity to explore how information technologies can be deployed to enhance and enrich areas such as:
- academic preparation,
- recruitment and admissions, and
- both academic and non-academic services for students.
Although this is a busy time for everyone, I hope that the timeliness and strategic importance of this topic will inspire you to participate in the discussion on June 23rd.
Please RSVP to Nancy Scott-Noennig ( nancy.scott-noennig@ucop.edu) by June 9, and don’t hesitate to contact me ( Daniel.greenstein@ucop.edu) if you have any questions.
With kind regards,
Daniel Greenstein, Associate Vice Provost and University Librarian
Co-Coordinator, UC-wide IT Guidance Committee
