National Labs >
Labs and the Community
The three UC-managed national laboratories are
integral members of their surrounding communities, active in local
organizations and events and significant contributors to the economic
prosperity of the regions.
Laboratory employees participate in a broad range
of civic and professional organizations in the surrounding communities.
Volunteers from the laboratories also help contribute to the success
of school programs, science fairs and special community events throughout
the year. The labs' facilities and employees also represent significant
educational resources for local students.
UC's national laboratories also provide exciting
partnership opportunities for small businesses and entrepreneurs,
while also providing a strong boost to their local economies through
expenditures, salaries and tax revenue.
Each laboratory has a responsive community relations
office, and develops unique avenues for connecting the labs with
their neighbors including Berkeley's Friends of Science program,
a community TV talk show from Livermore, and Los Alamos' tribal
relations and outreach centers in northern New Mexico.
The following links will help you visit UC's three
national labs and check out the wonderful array of community resources
available there.
