Allan Buch (pronounced “Buck”) grew up in Brooklyn, enrolling at CAL after his family moved to Southern California. An outstanding basketball player and 6-foot-2 guard, Allan captained the Bears for the 1959 NCAA title. He was inducted into the CAL Hall of Fame in 2002. A successful businessman Allan founded the multimillion-dollar Empco Industries, a tire & wheel importer & distributor, in Glendale, CA.
Allan was a pillar of the UC community in Great Britain. He moved to Norfolk in 1990 with his wife Jill and founded Berkeley in Britain, an alumni group for Cal alumni in the UK. Allan was a generous man--generous with his time and his resources. That generosity extended to the time Allan gave to the University of California Trust (UK) as a superlative member of our management board. Allan died in 2005 from cancer. Our scholarship fund is dedicated to his memory.
