Dinner for 6 Strangers - Spring 2008

UC alumni in California have been participating in the “Dinners for 12 Strangers” tradition for more than 40 years, bringing countless alumni, students, faculty and staff together for evenings of memorable discussion and camaraderie at small dinner parties throughout the State. Here in the UK we would like to continue this tradition by organising the inaugural “Dinner for 6 Strangers” season. We in Europe, after all, appreciate that space for 12 comes at a premium. Be a part of the legacy by attending or hosting a dinner party of your own on one of the following dates:

Saturday 17 May 2008
Thursday 22 May 2008
Saturday 24 May 2008

There is no cost to participate in the dinners but we would appreciate donations to the Allan Buch Memorial Scholarship Fund or your campus. We are suggesting donations of £15 per head. Individuals can attend without making a donation and donations of less or more than the suggested donation of £15 can be made. These donations will be gift-aidable as outright freewill gifts to the University of California Trust (UK).

Click here to Register, indicate your preference for participating as a host or attendee, and to make your donation.

UC Alumni In UK Facebook Group

Over the years we have received many requests for an interactive online forum where alumni can contact each other independently (rather than going through the UC email list serve), that offers a bulletin board facility, and that offers an alternative to email. To that end the alumni committee have asked us to set up a Facebook group site. Facebook is an interactive electronic way of communicating with other people in real time. It's an alternative to email and offers more flexibility. The nice thing about Facebook is that you can choose your privacy settings, as well as interacting with other alumni more easily.

a) How To Join the Facebook Group

In order to join the Alumni Group Site in London you will need to set yourself up with a Facebook account. To do that you will need to go to the Facebook site and register. On Monday 25 February we will send you an email invitation to join the Facebook group. You will need to respond to that. But you will only be able to do that once you have set up a Facebook Account. We are giving you three week’s notice to do that.

b)  How to Find the Group’s Site

The invitation to join the London UC Alumni Facebook Group should take you straight to the group’s site. If it does not or you don’t receive an invitation, the name of the group is “University of California Alumni Association (UK)”. You should be able to find that when you do a search under groups.

c) Facebook and Email Lists

California House and UC will continue to communicate with alumni via email and via Facebook. The email and snail mail lists will not be phased out.

d) Opting Out

If you do not wish to receive an invitation to join the Facebook group, please let us know.

We will do our best to keep you up to date of events sponsored by the other American Universities in London and we welcome you to send any additional information our way.
