The University of California Trust (UK) created the Allan Buch Memorial Scholarship Fund in April 2005 to provide grants for students facing emergency financial hardship after they have arrived in the UK. The fund also supports students wishing to undertake scholarly and creative projects and internships.
The Fund has awarded 38 grants to students from UC since it was started in April 2005. These grants were for students facing financial hardship, for internships, academic related projects, and community service work.
“The Geneva Conference was one of the most interesting and unusual weeks of my life. I have never participated in anything this intense…Thank you again for the grant and the opportunity,” Jessica Rankin, UC Santa Barbara, EAP student at University of Sussex, Buch Fund recipient March 07
During the coming year our goal is to continue the grant program, further develop the internship program and to launch a graduate fellowship program. This is an ambitious target, and we hope you can help.
Our vision is to help secure the future of the EAP program in Britain by ensuring that adequate financial support is available for UC students to have the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom. Allan Buch was a pillar of the UC community in Great Britain, he died of cancer in 2005. Our scholarship fund is dedicated to his memory.
