University of California officials announced today (Dec. 22) that UC’s research support professionals and technical employees have voted to ratify a new contract through June 30, 2008. Under the agreement UC’s research support professionals and technical employees will receive wage increases of approximately 12 percent over the next three years, contingent upon state funding, including three percent increases retroactive to Oct. 1, 2005, along with a $220 signing bonus. “We are very pleased to have reached this agreement for our research support and technical employees” said Howard Pripas, UC Director of Labor Relations. “It was very important to be able to reward them for their hard work, and the increased state funding UC received this year has made these long overdue increases possible.” Also part of the contract was an agreement by the union to not conduct any strikes for the life of the contract, including strikes in sympathy for other unions at UC. UC’s research support and technical employees also agreed to the rate changes for the excellent health and welfare benefits available to all UC employees.
