| Back FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA ADVISORY UC President Robert C. Dynes today (Nov. 8) issued the following statement regarding the passage of Proposition 1D, the bond measure for public education facilities in California. “I am gratified by the support of California’s voters for Proposition 1D. At the University of California, this funding will make an important contribution to our efforts to reinforce buildings that are vulnerable to earthquakes, construct academic facilities to accommodate continued rapid growth in our student enrollments, and renovate outdated infrastructure and research space to meet modern needs. UC’s role in educating the future workforce, developing new technologies, and keeping our state economically competitive depends upon the availability of safe, modern facilities. “Passage of Proposition 1D also gives a tremendous boost to our efforts to expand the availability of quality health care to underserved populations in California through the PRograms in Medical Education (PRIME) being developed at several UC campuses. Through the expansion of telemedicine and other innovative efforts, the funding in Proposition 1D will make a real difference for Californians who need better access to health care.” “Finally, I want to thank the campus foundations, alumni associations, and countless volunteers from the University community who contributed to this successful effort. The success of Proposition 1D represents an important step forward for public education and for our efforts to keep the University of California contributing to the economy and health of California.” # # # For more information about UC and Proposition 1D funding:
