| Back August 22, 2007 Wyatt R. Hume As chief operating officer working in support of President Dynes through this transition period, I welcome the opportunity to lead initiatives to respond to the challenges that Chairman Blum has identified. I welcome Chairman Blum’s paper as a call to action, and we intend to act on it energetically. We must reinvigorate our administrative structure, particularly at the Office of the President, so that we operate with clarity and direction, provide effective service to the campuses, and establish greater understanding and trust with the public we serve. The challenges Chairman Blum has emphasized are an integral part of the strategic imperatives we must address to ensure the continued quality and service of the University of California. We serve the people of California through our teaching, research, and public service activities, and as we engage in planning for the future of those activities, we must ensure we have effective and accountable administrative systems supporting them. I will respond in the coming days with the outline of an action plan and expect to discuss the matter in detail with the Regents at their September meeting. # # # Paper by Regents' Chairman Blum: "We Need to Be Strategically Dynamic"
