Senate passes AB 2296

On Aug. 22, 2008, the State Senate approved Assembly Bill 2296 (Mullin) on a bipartisan 29-0 vote. The bill now returns to the Assembly and will be heard next by the Assembly Public Safety Committee.

On Aug. 14, University of California research and law enforcement officials testified before the Senate Committee on Public Safety in support of AB 2296, which would help enhance law enforcement’s ability to protect academic researchers and their families from acts of violence and intimidation perpetrated by anti-animal research extremists.

Testimony:

M.R.C. Greenwood, UC Davis professor and former UC Santa Cruz chancellor and UC provost

Sgt. Karen Alberts, UC Berkeley Police Department, criminal investigations supervisor, overseeing the campus’ Threat Management Unit and Animal Rights Extremist Work Group
