University of California President Robert C. Dynes will visit the Imperial Valley region Friday, March 4, as part of his ongoing tour of California communities. During his visit, Dynes will meet with local high school students and parents, K-12 and college leaders, UC's agricultural and business partners, and regional UC alumni, to better understand and improve upon the University of California's impact on the region.

Media are invited to participate in the following events planned for the Imperial region on Friday:

- 11:30-11:50 a.m.: Tour UC water conservation/quality projects at McConnell Ranch, El Centro

UC advisers Khaled Bali and Juan Guerrero demonstrate how the university's research helps local growers conserve water and meet water-quality standards for the Salton Sea.

- Noon-2 p.m.: Lunch and tour of UC Desert Research and Extension Center, El Centro

Dynes discusses local agriculture with area growers and agribusiness leaders. Tour includes Farm Smart, a program that teaches K-12 students about agriculture, and a visit to UC's cattle corrals to learn about the latest in animal nutrition research.

2:20-2:40 p.m.: Visit to Caltrans State Highway Project - Interstate 8/Highway 7 junction (Orchard Road and Interstate 8)

Caltrans senior resident engineer Jay Goyal and UC advisers Herman Meister and Khaled Bali explain how UC saved taxpayers $1.2 million in construction costs for this major highway project. SITE CLOSED TO PUBLIC, MEDIA MUST RSVP BY PHONE.

3-4 p.m.: President meets with local students and parents, Barbara Worth Resort, Holtville

Dynes meets with area parents and students to discuss their academic experiences and higher education goals. Will include those students who participate in UC's academic preparation partnership programs with local high schools and colleges.

4-5 p.m.: President meets with Imperial education leaders, Barbara Worth Resort, Holtville

Dynes meet with Imperial K-University partnership group and Imperial County Education Superintendents to discuss local issues and future of higher education in region.

5-6:30 p.m.: UC All-alumni and friends reception, Barbara Worth Resort, Holtville

Alumni, friends and education leaders join Dynes for refreshments and conversation.
