This is a Notice of Meeting of the University of California Board of Regents on Wednesday, Jan. 19, and Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005. This regular business meeting of the board will be held at the UC San Francisco-Laurel Heights campus, 3333 California St., in San Francisco.
Wednesday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with public comment, followed by open session. Wednesday discussion items include the California Master Plan for Higher Education, the importance of graduate education to California, diversity issues in U.S. law schools, stem cell initiative update, and UC healthcare quality priorities. The Regents will consider action on a resolution affirming involvement in California’s preschool through postsecondary education system and a proposal for enhanced communications between regents and UC employees.
Thursday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with a closed session to consider personnel, investment and legal matters. The open sessions will follow with public comment and then the regents will consider action on submitting a proposal to the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the establishment of campus-based student fees at UC Merced, and financing approval for a multi-use stadium at UC Davis, an engineering unit at UC Irvine and an education and social sciences building at UC Santa Barbara. Discussion items on Thursday include an update on the governor’s 2005-06 state budget.
