University of California officials reported today (June 14) that the unlawful strike by the Coalition of University Employees union (CUE) has received very little participation from employees, and is having minimal impact on the university. Out of 16,500 employees represented by CUE, only approximately 600 without previously arranged absences did not report to work on Monday.

“We appreciate the dedication and understanding of all the employees who have not taken part in this unlawful strike,” said Howard Pripas, UC director of labor relations. “And we will continue to do everything we can on our side of the bargaining table for a fair contract for all our clerical employees.”

University officials said they will continue negotiations with the union on June 21-23, despite the union’s conduct, and that in an effort to help facilitate an agreement, they have extended the deadline for the union to accept its latest wage proposal, which is substantially equivalent to the increases approved by UC’s service workers union.
