The University of California Board of Regents will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 18, and Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006. This regular business meeting of the board will be held at the Price Center on the UC San Diego campus ( Myers Dr. off Gilman Dr.).

Wednesday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with public comment, followed by open session. The regents will consider action on employee compensation and laboratory management issues, including the establishment of a special regents’ committee on compensation. Wednesday discussion items include an update on the governor’s proposed 2006-07 budget, professional school fees for 2007-09, and program updates on the UC medical centers at the San Francisco, San Diego and Irvine campuses. On Wednesday afternoon, the regents will also meet in closed session to consider personnel, real estate and legal matters.

Thursday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with public comment, followed by open session. Thursday discussion items will include an update on private support. The regents will also consider action on proposed divestment of UC holdings in companies with business operations in Sudan.

In the afternoon, after the formal meeting concludes, the regents will participate in a campus visit, which will include presentations on campus issues and a tour of the Moores Cancer Center, the Preuss School (an on-campus, public middle/high school providing a college-prep education for low-income students) and other sites. Reporters are welcome to attend the tour; more information will be available at the meeting.
