After 26 years of service to the University of California, Secretary of The Regents Leigh Trivette will administer her last Regents’ meeting this month.
Trivette has announced her retirement, effective June 28.
“Leigh will be greatly missed. She has been a delight to work with, extraordinarily efficient in administering the activities of The Regents and always warm and gracious in her relations with people,” said Regents’ Chairman Gerald L. Parsky. “Her institutional knowledge has made a major contribution to the work of The Regents, and she has our great appreciation and respect for the high standards she has set and the integrity she has displayed in her service to the board.”
Trivette came to UC Berkeley in 1980, serving in an administrative position in the School of Public Health before joining the Office of the Secretary of The Regents in 1982. She served as assistant secretary and associate secretary before being named Secretary of The Regents in 1993. As secretary, she has worked with three presidents and eight board chairs.
“I have enjoyed 26 years of rich opportunities and challenges that have helped me grow in many ways,” Trivette said. “I intend now to move on to a new phase of my life and retire from the University at the end of June 2006, spending more time with my husband, family, and friends.
“I have great respect for the Regents with whom I have worked over the years and continue to be proud of my close association with the board. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served an institution of such high quality as the University of California, with other officers and colleagues who inspire each other to do their best, and will always reflect on this period with affection.”
The secretary is one of three principal officers of The Regents and reports directly to the board. The position is responsible for planning and staffing meetings of the Board of Regents, serving as custodian of Regental and other corporate records, providing administrative support to members of the board, serving legal notice for and preparing minutes of Regents’ meetings, and administering the operating budget of the Board of Regents. The secretary also is an ambassador of The Regents, overseeing communications and events on behalf of the board.
At their May meeting, The Regents will appoint an acting secretary. A national search for a permanent successor to Trivette will follow.
