On July 13, 2006, the United Auto Workers filed a petition with the Public Employment Relations Board to become the exclusive representative of University of California postdoctoral scholars for purposes of collective bargaining.

On Tuesday, October 31, PERB informed UC that the UAW withdrew its petition. PERB will issue an official notice to this effect, and it has informed both UC and the UAW that it considers the matter closed.
