The University of California Board of Regents will hold its regular business meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 16 through Thursday, Jan. 18, at the UC San Francisco-Mission Bay campus’ community center, 1675 Owens St., in San Francisco.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 16

On Tuesday morning, beginning at 11 a.m., the regents’ grounds and buildings committee will meet in open session to consider budget approval for UC Berkeley’s Stanley Quantitative Biosciences and Bioengineering Facility, the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, and the Institute for Regeneration Medicine building at UCSF as well as budget, design and environmental approvals for the UC Davis Health and Wellness Center. The regents will also consider design and environmental approvals for the Advanced Light Source user support building at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the biomedical sciences facility at UC Santa Cruz, and approval of California Coastal Commission conditions and long-range development plan amendments for modifying the Santa Barbara campus’ faculty and Sierra Madre housing projects.

The grounds and buildings committee will discuss the governor’s proposed 2007-08 budget for UC capital projects and the implementation of c ost-reduction recommendations. They will also receive the annual report on UC’s green building, clean energy and sustainable transportation policies and an update on the UCSF-Mission Bay neuroscience research building.

The regents’ compensation committee will meet in closed session on Tuesday afternoon, beginning at 3 p.m., to discuss individual salary actions, collective bargaining matters, funding for un-reimbursed salaries for key personnel at the Los Alamos and Livermore national laboratories, incentive pay for the systemwide vice president for clinical services development, and the creation of a new health sciences and services vice president position. Consistent with the regents’ policy, all action on compensation matters will be taken in open session on Thursday.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17

Wednesday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with public comment, followed by open session. On Wednesday morning, the regents’ educational policy committee will consider action to revise University policy on fees for selected professional school students and name UC’s labor institute after Miguel Contreras. Discussion topics include research on alternative energy sources and an update on the work of the diversity study group.

The regents’ laboratory oversight committee will receive information about contract competition and other laboratory matters, including the Berkeley Lab’s annual report, and consider action to modify the Berkeley contract as a result of changes in federal acquisition regulations.

On Wednesday afternoon, the regents will meet in closed session to consider personnel, real estate and legal matters as well as to discuss auditing standards, the internal audit plan for executive compensation and the health sciences compliance program.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 18

Thursday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with public comment, followed by an open session of the regents’ committee on compensation. The regents will consider approval of corrective actions related to compensation audit findings, the definition of “total compensation,” certain individual salaries, funding for un-reimbursed salaries for key personnel at the Los Alamos and Livermore national laboratories, incentive pay for the systemwide vice president for clinical services development, and the creation of a new health sciences and services vice president position . The committee will also consider action on an interim policy on outside professional activities for UC officers and staff.

The finance committee will discuss the governor’s proposed 2007-08 budget, and consider action on a policy to restrict acceptance of funding from the tobacco industry. The regents will also consider establishing permanent positions for staff advisors to the board of regents.
