On Thursday, March 22, 2007, the University of California reached an agreement with the Coalition of University Employees union regarding wage increases for lower-paid clerical employees.
The agreement affects approximately 11,800 UC clerical employees earning less than $40,000 per year, and represents a total cost to the university of approximately $2.7 million. The current weighted average salary for clerical employees earning less than $40,000 a year is $34,017.
Effective April 1, 2007, employees represented by CUE who earn less than $40,000 a year would receive salary increases as follows:
An employee in a title with an average salary of less than $30,000 a year would receive a 1.5% salary increase; An employee in a title with an average salary of more than $30,000 but less than $32,000 a year would receive a 1% salary increase; An employee in a title with an average salary of more than $32,000 but less than $40,000 a year would receive a 0.75% salary increase. The university is proposing similar increases for lower-paid service and patient care technical employees represented by the American Federation of Federal, State and County Employees, and technical and research support professional employees represented by the University Professional and Technical Employees union. Raises for these employees are subject to agreement by their respective unions.
An announcement of similar wage increases for lower-paid employees not represented by unions is expected soon.
The university is very pleased to have reached this agreement with CUE for lower-paid clerical staff. UC appreciates the hard work of the CUE joint compensation committee team in achieving this agreement.
