New plans for cooperation between UC San Diego and the government and a leading university in the neighboring Mexican state of Baja California will be announced April 17 during ceremonies on the campus at UC San Diego.
Marye Anne Fox, chancellor of the University of California, San Diego and Tonatiuh Guillen, president of El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (COLEF) will sign an agreement for collaboration in a wide swath of academic and research areas. At UCSD ongoing and new projects with COLEF will be under the leadership of the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies.
This announcement of academic cooperation will be followed by a special address from Baja California Gov. Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan, who will deliver the keynote presentation in the Charles Nathanson Lecture Series. This talk honors the late Charles Nathanson, a strong proponent of cross-border cooperation, and the remarks of Governor Osuna will be in that tradition.
Governor Osuna and others will be available for a question-and-answer session with reporters immediately following the Nathanson lecture.
All these events will be held at the Institute of the Americas Complex beginning at 10:45 a.m. Members of the news media wishing to cover are asked to notify Barry Jagoda at the contact parameters above.
