The University of California Board of Regents will hold its regular business meeting on Tuesday, July 15, through Thursday, July 17, at the UC Santa Barbara campus. The meeting agenda is available at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/regents/regmeet/july08.html.

TUESDAY, JULY 15

On Tuesday morning, beginning at 11 a.m., the Regents' grounds and buildings committee will meet in closed session to receive updates on legal issues. The committee will then meet in open session to consider budget, environmental and design approvals for various campus facilities projects (see agenda for project information). The committee will also discuss UC's 2008-09 capital improvement budget.

The Regents' compensation committee will meet in closed sessions on Tuesday afternoon, beginning at 3 p.m., to discuss individual salary actions and other compensation matters. Consistent with the Regents' policy, all compensation actions will be discussed and then voted on in open session by the committee on Wednesday and then the full board on Thursday. Open-session items slated for Wednesday's meeting will be posted online as early as possible upon the conclusion of Tuesday's closed committee discussion.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 16

Wednesday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with public comment, followed by open session. On Wednesday morning, the Regents' educational policy committee will discuss the systemwide alumni relations strategic plan, the findings of the Staff Diversity Council and a proposal to reform UC's freshman eligibility policy. The committee will also consider action on UC Irvine's proposed fundraising campaign.

The Regents' lab oversight committee will then meet to receive updates on activities at the Berkeley, Livermore and Los Alamos national laboratories.

The compensation committee will consider individual salary actions and other items from Tuesday's closed committee meeting, as well as action on the proposed performance management review process for senior management. The committee will also discuss a report on the 2008-09 incentive plan for the treasurer's office, a salary administration policy for senior managers and a proposed policy on the re-employment of UC retired employees into staff and senior management positions.

The Regents' compliance and audit committee will meet after lunch to consider a resolution to approve UC's ethics and compliance program. The Regents' grounds and buildings committee will then discuss seismic and other future capital needs on UC campuses.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Regents will meet in closed session to consider personnel and real estate matters.

THURSDAY, JULY 17

Thursday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with public comment, followed by an open session of the Regents' long range planning committee to discuss an accountability framework for the UC system.

The Regents' finance committee will then meet to discuss an update on the 2008-09 state budget and the university's 2009-10 budget as well as a proposed funding policy for the UC Retirement Plan. The committee will also consider whether UC should endorse the Children's Hospital Bond Act and an action to establish a limited liability company with the Foothill-De Anza Community College District for planning a shared research development and educational facility at the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field.

The Regents' educational policy committee will consider action related to establishing a new medical school at UC Riverside. The Regents' governance committee will consider action on an amendment of the board education and assessment policy.

Follow to the campus roundabout, go left around the circle to Lagoon Road. Follow Lagoon Road to UCen Road. Turn right and follow UCen Road to Parking Lot 3 -- on the right just before the stop sign at the University Center. Turn right into Lot 3.

From the north: Take Highway 101 to Fairview Avenue exit. Turn right onto Fairview Avenue. Cross Hollister. Continue on Fairview Avenue past the airport. Just past the car rental buildings, look for a left turn sign indicating UCSB. Turn left and follow the ramp up to Highway 217. Continue to campus entrance. Follow to campus roundabout, go left around the circle to Lagoon Road. Follow Lagoon Road to UCen Road. Turn right and follow UCen Road to Parking Lot 3 -- on the right just before the stop sign at the University Center. Turn right into Lot 3.

After parking, proceed to the University Center main door directly across from Storke Tower and Storke Plaza. Go down the stairs to the left of the University Center lobby to the State Street Room.
