“Offering a Ph.D. program allows the university to build on the firm foundation provided by the teaching and research strengths of both the Rady School and UC San Diego as a whole,” said Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. “The Ph.D. program will allow the Rady School to continue bring internationally recognized scholars in the areas of finance, decision making, management sciences and strategy, technology innovation and marketing to our campus.”
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) indicates that the U.S. shortage of business Ph.D.s is expected to be 1,000 in five years and nearly 2,500 in 10 years, in both the academic and corporate fields. Graduates with the right background and training have the opportunity to become next generation of professors at the top business schools around the world.
“To help ease the looming shortage of graduating doctoral students, the Rady School is committed to training Ph.D.s to tackle issues such as technological change and expansion into global markets”, said Rady School Dean Robert S. Sullivan. “Our Ph.D. graduates will have expertise in management with a more specialized focus on the needs of innovation-driven organizations.”
