The University of California welcomes the Department of Energy's commencement of the competition for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory management contract.

The University's final decision about whether to compete will be made by the UC Board of Regents at the appropriate time in the acquisition cycle. The Regents have authorized the University to begin preparations for the competition, and we are doing so in earnest. Should we compete, we will do so vigorously and with the firm belief that excellence in science and technology is critical to the mission of the laboratory. I know the men and women of the laboratory remain committed to delivering excellent science on behalf of the nation and will continue to do so throughout the competition process.
