TUESDAY, JULY 17

On Tuesday, beginning at 12 p.m., the regents' grounds and buildings committee will meet in open session to consider budget approval for UC Davis' physical sciences expansion, UC Santa Cruz's digital arts facility, UCLA student housing and UC San Diego's cogeneration plant expansion; various environmental and design approvals for UCLA's Spieker Aquatic Center and police station replacement building, UC Merced's social sciences and management building, safety improvements for UC Santa Barbara's Engineering II facility, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory guest house, UC Davis' veterinary medicine facility and UC San Diego's Venter Institute; certification of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's EIR and Long Range Development Plan; and budget, environmental and design approvals for UC Irvine's biomedical research facility. The committee will also consider approval to bring UC's amended capital improvements budget in line with the 2007-08 state budget (if a state budget has been approved).

The committee will discuss the UCLA Academic Health Facilities Reconstruction Plan, preliminary design review of UC San Diego's University House, and review of site planning and design parameters for UC Irvine's arts and telemedicine/medical education buildings.

The closed session of the regents' compensation committee will be held on Wednesday.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 18

Wednesday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with public comment, followed by an open-session discussion of climate change science. The regents' finance committee will then consider approval of the University's 2007-08 budget (if a state budget has been approved), the UC Office of the President budget, and policy restrictions on funding from the tobacco industry.

On Wednesday afternoon, the finance and investment committees will consider action on a conflict-of-interest policy for investment advisory committee members.

Later in the afternoon, the regents will meet in closed sessions to consider legal, real estate, and compensation and personnel matters. The compensation committee's closed session discussion will include individual salary actions, recruitment parameters for athletic coaches and staff, and collective bargaining matters. Consistent with the regents' policy, all compensation actions will be discussed and then voted on in open session on Thursday, first by the committee and then the full board. Open-session items slated for Thursday's meeting will be posted online as early as possible upon the conclusion of Wednesday's closed committee discussion.

A regents-only session of the compensation and educational policy committees will also then meet to discuss the extension of appointments and compensation for the acting chancellors at UCLA and UC Santa Cruz as well as the confirmation of appointment and compensation for the acting chancellor at UC Riverside.

A UC Santa Barbara campus overview and visit is scheduled following the closed sessions, beginning at 4 p.m. Media interested in attending the campus visit should notify UC communications staff in the press room on Wednesday morning.

THURSDAY, JULY 19

Thursday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with public comment, followed by an open session of the investment committee to consider approval of the regents' investment policy for UC campus foundations. The regents' laboratory oversight committee will consider various contract and management matters.

On Thursday morning, the regents' educational policy committee will discuss the UC Undergraduate Experience Survey (UCUES), an update on fall 2007 undergraduate admissions and proposed multi-year plans for professional fee increases. The committee also will consider an amendment to the policy on professional school fees and formal acknowledgement of issues raised by the California Postsecondary Education Commission about the UC Irvine law school. The educational policy committee will also meet jointly with the compensation committee to discuss principles underlying proposed adjustments to the faculty salary scales.
