AGENDA UPDATE: Two new sessions have been added to the UC Regents' board meeting scheduled for March 17-19 at the Riverside campus. On Thursday morning, the finance committee will consider action to endorse Proposition 1A, the state budget stabilization measure on the ballot in the May 19 special election. The governance committee will also consider a bylaw amendment to ensure both continuity of membership and appropriate leadership succession on its committee.

The University of California Board of Regents will hold its regular business meeting on Tuesday, March 17, through Thursday, March 19, at the Student Commons (third floor) on the UC Riverside campus. The meeting agenda is available at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/regents/regmeet/mar09.html.

Tuesday, March 17

On Tuesday afternoon, beginning at 2:30 p.m., the grounds and buildings committee will meet in closed session to discuss property matters related to the UC Merced campus, followed by an open session to consider budget, environmental and design approvals for various campus facilities projects across the UC system (see the agenda for project information).

Wednesday, March 18

Wednesday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with public comment, followed by open session. On Wednesday morning, the educational policy committee will consider action to establish a school of nursing at UC Davis and to discuss the UC Berkeley strategic plan and an update on implementing the UC student mental health report.

The long range planning committee will then discuss the annual accountability report on faculty competitiveness.

After lunch, the laboratory oversight committee will receive an update on activities at the national laboratories. The governance committee will then consider action to amend regental bylaws and policies on the board's procedures. The finance committee will meet in closed session to consider legal matters. In open session, the compliance and audit committee will consider approval of the fiscal year 2008-09 external audit plan.

On Wednesday afternoon, the compensation committee will meet in closed session to consider individual salary actions and other items. Discussion items include the appointments of the systemwide senior vice president for external relations, chief financial officer and systemwide vice president for human resources, and the 2008 annual report on compensated outside professional activities of senior management. Consistent with the Regents' policy, all compensation actions will be discussed and then voted on in open session on Thursday. Open-session items slated for Thursday's meeting will be posted online as early as possible Wednesday upon the conclusion of the closed committee discussion.

Thursday, March 19

Thursday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with public comment and an open session of the finance committee to discuss the state budget, campus budget reduction strategies and the fiscal year 2009-10 budget for the UC Office of the President.

The compensation committee will meet to consider action of items discussed in Wednesday's closed session and other compensation-related matters.
