Seventeen other distinguished individuals also will be feted for their commitment to UC Irvine. Awardees were selected by a committee of alumni, faculty, students and volunteers. A complete list follows.
Since 1971, the association has recognized more than 600 people, with proceeds from the event benefitting UCIAA scholarship programs. The Extraordinarius award, Lauds & Laurels' highest honor, is presented to those who have prominently contributed to the advancement of UC Irvine and its fundamental missions of teaching, research and public service.
"Lauds & Laurels is more than an awards program for us," said Jorge E. Ancona, assistant vice chancellor of alumni relations and UCIAA executive director. "It's an opportunity to showcase the tremendous impact the people of UC Irvine make on our community at large. This year's ceremony spotlights truly outstanding Anteater leaders spanning the fields of healthcare, technology and international business, to name just a few."
Feldman joined UC Irvine in 1964 as part of the original cohort of 25 faculty members, leaving his tenured post at UC Berkeley to help build a new campus and what has become the UC system's university's only school dedicated to information & computer sciences. He not only wrote the proposal to establish the ICS program at UC Irvine but twice was department chair and for more than four decades has served the university in numerous leadership roles.
Individual tickets to the awards ceremony are $250, with 10-person tables available by calling the association at (949) 824-2586. Find a complete list of past Lauds & Laurels recipientsf here (PDF).
