Vivian Reznik is the associate dean for faculty affairs and a professor of pediatrics and family and preventive medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
The San Diego County Women's Hall of Fame will welcome several standout San Diego women at its ninth annual induction ceremony and dinner, March 27 at UC San Diego's Price Center Ballroom East from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is open to the public and honors and acknowledges women who have significantly contributed to the quality of life and have made outstanding volunteer contributions in San Diego County.

Awards are granted in the areas of empowerment, activism, trailblazing, cultural competency and historical preservation. This year's inductees include:

  • UC San Diego pediatric nephrologist Dr. Vivian Reznik has worked to make healthcare more accessible to San Diego's diverse populations.
  • As the first female tribal leader of the Kumeyaay Nation, Anna Sandoval's leadership has greatly benefited her people.
  • Known as the "matriarch of Barrio Logan," Laura Rodriguez will be inducted posthumously for helping create the Logan Heights Family Health Clinic and for establishing and preserving Chicano Park.
  • A pioneer for women lawyers in San Diego County and co-founder of the Lawyers Club bar association, Justice Judith McConnell has promoted gender equity within the profession.
  • Co-author of the first book published on the subject of women's assertiveness, Dr. Gloria Harris has helped numerous women become more confident. Her expert witness testimony has aided victimized women receive compensation in sexual harassment court cases.
  • This year's Spirit of the Hall of Fame Award recipient, Bree Walker is well known in San Diego and beyond for her groundbreaking work on television as a person with a disability and as part of the first all-women television news anchor team in the U.S.

"This is a diverse group of women whose selfless contributions have advanced social justice and have made a lasting impact on our communities," said campus diversity officer and director of the UC San Diego Women's Center, Dr. Emelyn dela Peña. "Their legacies are an example of how the Hall of Fame embodies UC San Diego's Principles of Community." Inductees are available for interviews now and on the night of the event.
