UCLA Chancellor Gene Block and UCSF Chancellor Susan Desmond-Hellmann were among 29 University of California affiliated fellows elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences for 2010.
They are part of a group 229 leaders in the sciences, social sciences, the humanities, the arts, business and public affairs chosen to join the academy. The independent policy research center was founded 230 years ago by by John Adams, James Bowdoin, John Hancock and other scholar-patriots.
The full list of new members was released on the academy website today (April 19). Other new University of California affiliated fellows from UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, UCSF and UC Santa Cruz are:
