Russell Gould, who as chairman of the University of California Board of Regents created the UC Commission on the Future to identify long-term strategies for addressing challenges arising from the state's fiscal crisis, has been re-elected to another one-year term beginning July 1, 2010. Vice Chair Sherry Lansing also was re-elected.

The Regents acted May 20 on recommendations from the Committee on Governance, which also nominated chairs and vice chairs of standing committees, approved by the Regents effective July 1, 2010.

The chairs and vice chairs of the standing committees are:

• Committee on Compensation: Bruce Varner, chair; Monica Lozano, vice chair.
• Committee on Compliance and Audit: Fred Ruiz, chair; Charlene Zettel, vice chair.
• Committee on Educational Policy: Eddie Island, chair; Bonnie Reiss, vice chair.
• Committee on Finance: Monica Lozano, chair; Bruce Varner, vice chair.
• Committee on Grounds and Buildings: Leslie Tang Schilling, chair; Hadi Makarechian, vice chair.
• Committee on Health Services: Sherry Lansing, chair; William De La Peña, M.D., vice chair.
• Committee on Investments: Paul Wachter, chair; George Marcus, vice chair.
• Committee on Long Range Planning: Bonnie Reiss, chair; George Kieffer, vice chair.
• Committee on Oversight of the Department of Energy Laboratories: Norman Pattiz, chair; William De La Peña, M.D., vice chair.
