RIVERSIDE — Toby Miller, chair of UC Riverside’s Department of Media and Cultural Studies, will be featured in a forum with former CNN chief news executive Eason Jordan about the role of television networks in political campaigns at UCLA’s Hammer Museum on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
The event is free, but tickets are required and are available at the Billy Wilder Theater box office at 6 p.m. on a first come, first served basis. Parking is available under the museum for $3 after 6 p.m. The museum is located at 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles.
“And the Winner is … The TV Networks!” will address whether media monopolies, which receive a large portion of campaign funds, have any incentive to fix a system from which they benefit substantially.
Miller, an internationally known media expert, will examine the medium from which most voters get their political information. Jordan will offer a perspective on the choice between social responsibility and the corporate bottom line.
The moderator is Ian Masters, journalist, author, screenwriter, documentary filmmaker, and host of the radio programs “Background Briefing” and “The Daily Briefing,” which air on KPFK.
The program is part of the Hammer Forum series that addresses current social and political issues.
