UCTV focuses on whooping cough

Whooping cough (pertussis) has been widespread, including nine infant deaths in California during 2010. A newly enacted state law now requires all students to be immunized against pertussis, and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) recommends that all Californians 10 years and older receive a booster shot against pertussis.

As part of UCTV's "Just in Case, Just in Time" initiative, Robert Schechter of the California Department of Public Health will present a live update on the threat of pertussis (whooping cough) and the new Student Booster Law (CA-AB 354) that mandates Tdap booster shots for about 3 million California schoolchildren in grades 7 through 12.

UCTV will air the program at noon Tuesday, Feb. 15 on television and live streaming on its website. Free continuing medical education credit is available through UC Davis.
