SACRAMENTO — Timothy Maurice, an executive with a strong background in hospital and health-care finance, has been appointed as chief financial officer of UC Davis Health System.

Maurice currently is vice president and chief financial officer at St. John's Regional Medical Center and St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital in Ventura County.

As chief financial officer, Maurice will be responsible for the overall financial operation of UC Davis Health System, which has a $1.6 billion annual budget. The health system consists of the UC Davis School of Medicine, the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, UC Davis Medical Center and its clinics, and the Practice Management Group.

Maurice will oversee strategic financial planning and reporting, budgeting, general accounting, operational and capital financial planning, payroll, accounts payable and materials management. In addition, all staff members at the health system with responsibilities for these activities will report directly to Maurice.

"We are delighted to have an individual with Tim's experience, skills and knowledge as our new chief financial officer," said Claire Pomeroy, chief executive officer of UC Davis Health System, vice chancellor for Human Health Sciences and dean of the School of Medicine. "Tim's 30-plus years of strong financial, strategic and capital-planning experience will be of great value to the health system as we navigate this period of challenge and opportunity associated with health-care reform."

"UC Davis Health System has an excellent reputation of meeting the needs of the communities it serves. I am excited to join a team that has a clear vision of how it wants to advance health, and I look forward to being able to contribute in meaningful ways to ensure both the viability of the organization and the success of its mission," Maurice said.

In his current role at St. John's Regional Medical Center and St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital, Maurice oversees finance, managed care, patient and financial services, health information management, materials management and information technology. He also has served as chief financial officer at Good Samaritan Community Healthcare in Tacoma, Wash.; Saint Joseph Mercy-Oakland in Oakland County, Mich.; Sutter Gould Medical Foundation and Sutter Tracy Community Hospital; and Doctors Medical Center, Doctors Hospital-Manteca; all in California.

Maurice's experience also includes service at two academic teaching hospitals: Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle and the University of Washington Hospital and Medical Center.

Maurice received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Washington in 1976, and his M.B.A. from Seattle University in 1988.

Maurice will start his job at UC Davis Health System on March 28. The health system's current CFO, William McGowan, will remain at the health system until his retirement in June to help with the transition.

Maurice will receive an annual base salary of $400,000. In keeping with UC policy, additional compensation will include a relocation allowance, participation in the Clinical Enterprise Management Program and the Senior Management Supplemental Benefit Program, eligibility for a Mortgage Origination Program loan and participation in the Partners Opportunity Program for faculty spouses. For additional details about Maurice's total compensation package, contact the Public Affairs department.
