SANTA CRUZ — If there is any question that public education is worth supporting, worth caring about, look no further than "10 Grads in 10 Days," multimedia profiles of 10 graduating UC Santa Cruz students.

The series debuted Tuesday (May 31) and will roll out, one a day, through next week. The profiles can be found at http://news.ucsc.edu/10x10/.

The campus chose 10 students to profile from the more than 3,000 who will graduate this month, the class of 2011. Among the undergraduates roughly 30 percent will be the first in their families to earn a four-year degree.

The new grads span the academic disciplines — they are musicians and artists, game designers and bioengineers, journalists and organizers, scholars and future teachers. Some have overcome significant challenges in their pursuit of higher education.

Each represents his or her graduating class, university and the promise of public education in California.
