Approaching wildfire closes lab

Los Alamos National Laboratory is closed today (June 27) as a fast-moving wildfire burns southwest of the lab. As of this morning, the Las Conchas fire had not entered lab property, but a forecast change in wind direction could allow flames to approach the site.

According to the lab's website, all hazardous and radioactive materials remain accounted for and are appropriately protected, as are key l facilities such as its proton accelerator and supercomputing centers.
