Med centers lauded for LGBT inclusion

UCSF Medical Center and UC Davis Medical Center have been recognized as Leaders in Healthcare Equality for creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender patients and employees.

The recognition is part of the New York-based Human Rights Campaign Foundation's 2011 Healthcare Equality Index report, which examines the quality of health-care services and policies affecting sexual minorities and their families at hospitals throughout the United States. The foundation is the nation's largest LGBT civil rights organization.

The centers are among only 27 medical centers nationwide to be named a leader in health-care equality. UCSF received a perfect score on the index for the fifth consecutive year — the only institution in the United States to do so.
